Sosu’s 1st Annual Planting Day with CHAA

Come Farm with us this Mother's Day!

This year, we are working with 4 local farmers in the San Francisco bay area to grow collectively over 140,000 lbs of fresh tomatoes and chili peppers for our sauces. That’s a lot of produce and sauce!

On a smaller scale, we are growing our own test garden of tomatoes and chili peppers at the Gardens at Lake Merritt in Oakland with our friends at CHAA (Community Health for Asian Americans). The small plot will be a place to garden, share techniques, learnings about growing tomatoes and chili peppers.

Varieties of tomatoes we will be growing this year include Sun Golds, Golden Jubilees, Early Girl, Dirty Girl, Purple Cherokee, and others along with peppers!

So come join us as we do some gardening this upcoming Sunday! As a farmer on planting day, you will reap the harvest at our harvest party later this summer when the tomatoes and chili peppers are ready to be sampled and eaten!

It’s a casual, low-key event. Come relax with us as we get our hands dirty in soil and plant those tomatoes and peppers!

Date & Time: Sunday, May 11th from 10am – 12pm

Location: The Gardens at Lake Merritt  (666 Bellevue Ave., Oakland) – look for a plot called Cambodian People Garden or call 415-676-9712 if you get lost! http://gardensatlakemerritt.org/map/

(We are doing a group sharing lunch. Bring your lunch to share if you like to taste what others’ are bringing!)

Kendall Jackson 17th Annual Heirloom Tomato Festival September 28, 2013

If you love tomatoes and wine, this is the event for you! Each year the Kendall Jackson Winery in Sonoma County puts together this big celebration and tribute to heirloom tomatoes. Actually Kendall Jackson has a farm on their vineyard where they grow over 200+ varieties of tomatoes and you get to taste each one of them at the festival along with wine and food from various vendors who are featuring tomatoes in their dishes.

We were inspired this year to make a Mapo Tofu dish for the festival using our Srirachup (you can get the recipe from our Recipe section). The sweetness of the early girl tomatoes in our Srirachup paired with a slight spicy kick of our Sriracha gives this traditional Chinese dish a new twist. Come and taste it yourself! And be sure to say hello!

Eat Real Festival - Oakland September 27 - 29, 2013

Eat Real Festival is one of the food festivals in bay area that we look forward to each year. Not only for it's reasonable priced food from amazing Bay Area food vendors (all food are topped at $5 each), but for the feel of the energy and passion from the community.

This year Sosu will be in the Marketplace from September 27th - 29th offering tastes of our ketchups. Come over and say hello and taste some of our ketchups before snatching a few home. We will have a fun contest with prizes.

Also, if you have kids or are a kid at heart, don't miss out Lisa's workshop "Ketchup taste like tomatoes" in the Kids Zone on 28th and 29th between 2:00-3:00 for a fun demonstration and tasting of different tomatoes from the season and learn how flavors can be combined to make ketchup that taste like tomatoes.
