Bacon Ketchup Fried Rice

What do you do with leftover rice? You make fried rice! To achieve the nice texture of "fried" rice, the secret is using at least a day old rice.

This ketchup fried rice recipe is an inspiration from when I was living in Hong Kong as a student. When you are tight on budget and want to eat something good, ketchup fried rice was the answer. We added a "western" ingredient - bacon to the mix to kick things up a little. If you like to keep it classic, use Chinese sausages. Full Recipe -->

Spicy Srirachup "Sprouted" Pecans

This recipe comes from a good friend, Karen Diggs, a nutritionist and a teacher. She introduced me to the world of "sprouted nuts." What is sprouted nuts you might ask? Sprouted nuts are nuts that have been soaked. Because nuts contain phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors that can pull minerals from your body and cause bad digestion.  Soaking nuts, and other seeds with a little salt or lemon greatly improves digestibility, taste, and “unlocks” the nutrients in nuts so that we can benefit from them. They named it Jucy Lucy for a reason! So for Memorial Day Weekend, we were inspired to make our version of the Juicy Lucy and spiced it up with Srirachup! READ MORE -->

Chinese-style Tomato and Eggs (番茄雞蛋)

I like winter because of the festivities but also it means lots of time to gather with the family and eat lots of good food. But as a ketchup maker, winter is one of my most dreadful seasons of the year because there are no sun-ripened tomatoes. Yes, you can get tomatoes year-round nowadays at Trader Joe's, but they don't taste good or even compare. Thank goodness we have Srirachup, right? READ MORE -->

The Sun Family Ketchup-Curry Cauliflower Recipe

To be honest, I am not a big vegetable eater. Although, I do love cauliflower for some reason. I stumbled upon cauliflower at Berkeley Bowl yesterday and decided to get it to make my fiancee's family ketchup-curry cauliflower dish. Before I tasted this dish at a family outing, I never thought a vegetable dish could taste as good and as flavorful as a meat dish. But this does it all. It is not only flavorful but is much healthier. Our Classic ketchup is a great base for this dish, one additional secret ingredient is curry paste. The one I use is the vegetarian yellow curry paste from Mae Ploy. The turmeric and lemongrass adds so much flavor, it will automatically take you to Thailand!

Smoked Salmon Egg Scramble

One of my favorite things to do when I wake up early in the morning is to make eggs for breakfast. Something about the smell of eggs in the morning as you are just waking up, sets a great mood for me the entire day. Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day and starting the day out with a good, healthy meal can make a difference. So next time when you are up a little bit earlier, try to make some eggs for breakfast. For me, it's a relaxing therapy to wake up and enjoy the morning quietness, with a cup of coffee and some eggs. The leaves are turning red on the maple trees outside, we turned our clocks back an hour, and on a lazy Sunday afternoon I just want to take naps and stay in bed to keep warm.
